Oasis Dig out Your Soul Review

Review date: 09.10.2008
Our rating:

Dig Out Your Soul, the seventh studio album from Oasis, is a surprising return to form for a band that had seemed lost to self-referential stodginess. Continuing the resurgence started by Heathen Chemistry, Dig Out Your Soul discards the old brashness and the tendency to self-parody, and even the Beatles-esque moments are moderated. The musical space created by this new restraint is filled with gentle hints of everything from heavy rock to Americana, and the result is an Oasis album that sounds familiar yet revitalized. Full of the sort of straightforward rock that’s out favour at present, Dig Out Your Soul can’t be called innovative, but it’s surprisingly enjoyable.

Scream combines Chris Cornell’s raw vocals with R&B producer Timbaland’s poppy knob-twiddling to produce an album that is fascinating in all the wrong ways.
