What Happens In Vegas Review

Review date: 24.09.2008
Our rating:

Uptight Joy and laidback Jack meet in Vegas and promptly do what all wildly mismatched couples do in Sin City, and get themselves spliced. Then looms large the plot hammer, smashing flat all good storytelling and leaving contrivance in the wreckage: Jack wins three million dollars with Joy’s coin, and instead of a speedy divorce, they try to make their marriage work in order to get their hands on the money. The plot then tours all the usual romcom destinations, from family outings to workplace retreats, delivering jokes you can see coming a mile off, whilst strangely failing to give any weight to the few clever lines and performances the film does contain. There are a few chuckles to be had here, but not as many as there could have been.

    Gran Torino Review

Gran Torino is a much needed return to directorial form for Clint Eastwood, offering gentle red herrings and convincing character development in the course of a bathetic story.

The morbidly fascinating details of the East Coast/West Coast feud keeps Notorious interesting even when its characterisation fails to convince.

Frank Miller’s adaptation of The Spirit on Blu-ray will give your screen and speakers a great workout, but the film is a failure in every other respect.
