Our rating:

Best known for headlines like ‘Drugs Win Drugs War’, The Onion has been the internet’s leading provider of sharp media satire for years, parodying shoddy reporting and yellow journalism and attracting a devoted following in the process. With that pedigree a movie written by The Onion’s writing team and targeting TV news should be one of the year’s comedic high points. Sadly News Movie has abandoned edgy wit in favour of tasteless gags directed at soft targets. The DVD presentation does little to mitigate the disappointment, with the only extras being outtakes and deleted scenes as crude as those that made it into the film.

    Gran Torino Review

Gran Torino is a much needed return to directorial form for Clint Eastwood, offering gentle red herrings and convincing character development in the course of a bathetic story.

    The Spirit Review

Frank Miller’s adaptation of The Spirit on Blu-ray will give your screen and speakers a great workout, but the film is a failure in every other respect.
