Iron Man Review

Review date: 27.10.2008
Our rating:

Exciting enough to make you feel like a kid again, Iron Man is a great film in any format, but it particularly benefits from the high-def treatment. Blu-ray image quality can be pretty unforgiving of soft special effects, but Iron Man’s perfect polish retains all its sheen in beautiful HD, while the simple, compelling sound effects that add such realism to the flight scenes pack as much power as they did at the cinema. In addition to the DVD edition’s astonishing array of extras, the Blu-ray edition adds an interactive 3D tour of all the armours used in the film, as well as the opportunity to create and share Iron Man quizzes over BD Live. The pick of the features, however, is the genuinely informative I Am Iron Man documentary.

Gran Torino is a much needed return to directorial form for Clint Eastwood, offering gentle red herrings and convincing character development in the course of a bathetic story.
