Vantage Point Review

Review date: 14.08.2008
Our rating:

It sounds like a mean joke to say that the best thing about Vantage Point is that it only lasts ninety minutes, but it’s a thriller built around repeating the same twenty minute of action from multiple viewpoints, so the short run time helps keep the tension high and the action frantic. While lively enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, Vantage Point is a slave to its narrative structure at the expense of its credibility. It’s much like 24 in that sense: exciting but preposterous. On top of that, the acting and dialogue are poor and the characterisation practically non-existent, although it does look and sound as good as you’d expect from a Blu-ray movie.

    Gran Torino Review

Gran Torino is a much needed return to directorial form for Clint Eastwood, offering gentle red herrings and convincing character development in the course of a bathetic story.

The morbidly fascinating details of the East Coast/West Coast feud keeps Notorious interesting even when its characterisation fails to convince.

Frank Miller’s adaptation of The Spirit on Blu-ray will give your screen and speakers a great workout, but the film is a failure in every other respect.
